1927 – 2016

PORTLAND — Freda Merry, 88, of Anson, went to her eternal home with the Lord on Saturday, April 30, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, surrounded by loving family.

She was born May 17, 1927 in East Solon, to the late Lester and Alta (Collins) Chase. She grew up in East Solon and attended and graduated from Solon High School.

Freda worked for several years at Kennebec Mill in Bingham and in the kitchen at Bragg’s Boarding Home in Madison.

She was a very giving and supportive person, was passionate about hospice and volunteered for years at Somerset Hospice. She was a devoted member of the Christ Community Fellowship Church in Madison since 1956 and over the years provided home health care for several members of the church. For all of the many hats she wore throughout her life, she will be best remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Although born and raised in East Solon, she lived all of her adult life in Anson, where she raised her eight children. 

She is survived by her children, George Young Jr. of Auburn, Anita Bowman and her husband, Robert, of Harmony, Connie Lugg and husband, Alan, of Epsom, N.H., Llewellyn Young and his wife, Trudy, of North Anson, Nancy Smith and her husband, Bernard, of Anson, Carol Harrington and her husband, Dale, of Waterville, Everett Merry and his wife, Wanda, of Waterville and Warren Merry of Anson. She is also survived by her sister, Alice Waugh of Harmony; as well as ten grandchildren’ eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Freda is predeceased by her husband, Charles; sisters, Dorothy Brown and Phyllis Cookson.
