1934 – 2016

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. — Glenda Lamkin Edwards, 81, died Monday, May 2, surrounded by her family at her home in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.

She was born Oct. 11, 1934, in Farmington, a daughter of Elwin D. and Emily (Webber) Lamkin. Glenda graduated from Farmington High School and the University of Maine at Orono with her bachelor’s degree. Later in life, she earned her master’s degree in elementary education from Nova University.

Her first priority was always her family. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, gathering her family together and spending time with her grandchildren.

She had a passion for education, being an elementary school teacher for more than 30 years in New Jersey, Maine and Florida. She also worked to provide educational funding for children in Kenya.

After retirement, she became an active member of the Sarasota Area Alumnae Delta Delta Delta Chapter, where she created a philanthropic project of making fleece blankets that were given to children battling cancer in the hospital. For this work, Glenda received the Ernestine Block Grisby Award by the National Chapter of Delta Delta Delta.

Surviving her are her husband, Jim Edwards; her children, Nadine Jones, Brian Mowatt, Bret Mowatt, Lisle Ogle and their spouses; her brother, Walter Lamkin; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her sister, Gloria Wiles.
