WILTON — The Board of Selectpersons approved hiring Adam Cote of Temple as code enforcement officer.

Cote, who grew up in Wilton, does not have state certification but neither did other candidates, Town Manager Rhonda Irish told the board Tuesday.

Code Enforcement Officer Roger Williams announced plans to retire in June. He also works for Turner and has been available one day a week in Wilton.

Cote has a Bachelor of Science degree in construction management technology from the University of Maine, with two minors in surveying technology and engineering entrepreneurial, Irish said Wednesday.

He has worked as a project manager for E.L. Vining & Son in Farmington since 2012 and previously at Cianbro and Sargent Corp.

Irish said she plans for Cote to start working after he completes his present work, giving him time to train with Williams.

Cote will have to get his state certifications within a year to continue as code enforcement officer. He will also need to get plumbing inspection certification.

For Wilton, he will need certifications in shoreland zoning, land use, legal issues and building standards. He will start on the plumbing inspection certification first. If he is not able to become a licensed plumbing inspector by the end of June, the town may need to rely temporarily on other inspectors, as needed, period, she said.

Cote will work up to 20 hours a week on average, she said. His salary will start at $18 an hour with no benefits.

In other business, the board approved the town meeting warrant and awarded the contract for printing the town report to Snowman Group of Bangor for 550 copies at $919.26.

Other bidders included:

• Skowhegan Press, $1,192;

• Printing Warehouse of Wilton, $1,430; and

• Franklin Printing of Farmington, $2,661.15.
