LEWISTON — L/A Veterans Council and the Twin Cities of Lewiston and Auburn will host an unveiling ceremony of the 28th monument at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at Veterans Memorial Park.

The monument will be unveiled by retired U.S. Air Force, Major Gen. Susan Y. Desjardins, a two-star general. She will also speak at the event.

The monument will include Desjardins’ name as well as members of her family, totaling five family members:

• her father, Albert Desjardins, U.S. Marine Corps;

• her mother, Ann Desjardins, U.S. Air Force;

• her brother, Thomas Desjardins, U.S. Navy; and

• her sister, Cheryl Desjardins, U.S. Army.

Plans are also underway for a parade at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 28, with combined marching bands of Lewiston High School, Edward Little High School and Leavitt Institute. The Kora Temple Highlanders will also be among the participants in the parade. DeWitt and Cote are inviting all veterans’ organizations and the Vietnam Veterans of America to parade in vehicles and/or Color Guard as well as other interested units.

Volunteers are also needed to post flags on veterans’ graves at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewiston on Saturday, May 21, at 10 a.m.
