ANSWER: Thank you for asking, it’s always a good idea when you’re unsure of whether something could be a scam to check into it further. Sun Spots recommends calling the police department before handing over your cash if you have any such concerns in the future.

This instance, however, is legit. The former Lewiston police chief is running for Maine Senate, District 21. According to his Facebook page, he has decided to run using Clean Election Funds, which means he needs to obtain 175 $5 checks, money orders or online donations (basically, donations that can be properly documented) from registered Lewiston voters in order to qualify for clean election funding.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I spend winters in Florida and summers in Maine. I started taking line dancing classes in my community in Florida this past winter. I really enjoy it and would like to continue dancing through the summer. I have done a Google search looking for classes in Lewiston-Auburn, but haven’t found anything. I was wondering if you or your readers would have some information on weekly classes that go through the summer that I would be able to join. I can be reached via e-mail at gm04210@gmail.com or by phone at 786-6796. Thank you. — Rose, No Town.

ANSWER: Not far from Lewiston-Auburn is a town called Mechanic Falls, and in Mechanic Falls is The Silver Spur — a country music hub for the area. They offer line dancing on Monday nights from 6 to 7 p.m. Classes are $5 and are walk-in. You can call for more information by dialing (207) 345-3211.

Denise Hebert is a local line dance instructor who teaches classes during the year at the YWCA of Central Maine in Lewiston, however, those classes take a summer hiatus just after Father’s Day. For a more advanced line dancer, though, Denise offers Wednesday night classes throughout the summer at Central Hall, which is located at 191 Lisbon St. The group that meets there is called D&D Dancers. They meet from  6:30 to 8 p.m., and to find the location, you should park in the parking garage located at the corner of Ash and Canal streets. The entrance is across the first walkway on the fourth floor. You can reach Denise by calling (207) 330-0772. Happy dancing!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A very special “thank you” to the Lisbon Post Office. I accidentally mailed a note without the street number. I called the post office and they graciously retrieved my letter and added the number for me. God bless our special post office. — No Name, Lisbon.
