DIXFIELD — Firefighters from four towns quickly knocked down a brush fire Wednesday afternoon that spread to a home at 25 Averill Hill Road, Fire Chief Scott Dennett said.
“By the time we got on scene, it was pretty much contained to the ground, with the leaves and pine needles,” he said. The fire burned a few shingles on the house, he said.
Peru, Rumford and Mexico Fire departments assisted.
No one was home when the fire was reported around 11:30 a.m.
Maine Forest Service Ranger Jay Bernard said the cause was under investigation.
