BATH — The Chocolate Church Arts Center will welcome back singer/songwriter John Gorka at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, on the main stage at 804 Washington St.

Hailing from New Jersey but forged in the Greenwich Village Fast Folk scene, Gorka honed his craft and persona into an unmistakable image. The shy, wry, insightful and sensitive singer/songwriter has been copied and parodied. But the old musical coat he wove still fits and still suits him well.

Gorka’s career has continued to grow and expand over nearly three decades, with new songs and recordings that have consistently received rave reviews. His live performances exhibit the hand of the master craftsman he has become, both moving and hilarious, with audiences requesting countless of Gorka’s original songs: songs that have become part of their lives and standards in the folk cannon.

Audiences are enthralled by his stunningly soulful baritone voice and original songwriting. Performers who had at one time inspired Gorka — Suzanne Vega, Bill Morrissey, Nanci Griffith, Christine Lavin and Shawn Colvin — have become his peers throughout the years.

Tickets cost $25 in advance and $30 at the door. They are available by calling the box office at 207-442-8455 or at www.chocolatechurcharts.org.
