MONMOUTH — Best known as the inventor of the “pie saver,” Lewiston native Nancy Beaule traded in her inventor’s hat and has now penned her first book in a series call “Chompy & The Munchy Bunch,” geared toward 4-to-8-year-olds. “The Secret Formula” is about a nervous carrot named Chompy who hears about an ancient carrot formula that gives super-powered eyesight — which leads Chompy and his pals to search in a mysterious mansion where strange things begin to happen.

Beaule said she has always had an interest in writing and childrfen’s nutrition, so finding a way to combine the two led her to create this series. Having three young grandchildren didn’t hurt either.

The special formula, called “Chompy Juice,” can easily be made at home (recipe in on her website, nancybeaule.com). Kids love re-enacting the “eye-popping” segment in her book, and parents appreciate the underlying nutritional message hidden inside. “With smaller groups we hand out special novelty glasses so their eyes can pop out like Chompy’s and they get a big kick out of it,” Beaule said.

“The Secret Formula” is available in paperback on www.nancybeaule.com, barnsandnoble.com, and Amazon.com. A Kindle version is also available.

Volume two in the series is scheduled to be released this summer.

Beaule lives in Monmouth with her husband of 40 years. She has two children and three grandchildren.
