WILTON — Investigators with the Office of State Fire Marshal are asking for the public’s help in finding the person who set fire to a house at 1009 U.S. Route 2 West in East Dixfield this past weekend.

The fire marshal’s office and local fire and police departments are investigating the arson that was reported at 2:49 a.m. Saturday by a passer-by.

About 30 firefighters from Wilton, Jay and East Dixfield were unable to save the single-family, ranch-style house owned by Megaly Vega of Lawrence, Mass. It had been unoccupied for the past few years, state investigator Sgt. Kenneth Grimes said Monday.

“The fire marshal’s office, along with the citizens of the area need the assistance to solve this crime,” according to a state fire investigator’s message on the Wilton Police Department’s Facebook page.

Anyone with information about the fire or unusual activity in the vicinity of Hall Farms is asked to call the fire marshal’s office arson hotline at 1-888-870-6162.

Information can also be reported to the Central Maine Regional Communications Center at 207-624-7076. People are asked to refer tips to fire investigators Kenneth MacMaster or Jeremy Damren.
