1921 – 2016

NORTH WATERFORD — Richard A. Jones, 94, a lifelong resident of North Waterford, died Thursday evening, May 19, at his seven generation family farm, in the company of his wife and son.

He was born on, July 10, 1921, in North Waterford, a son of Wallace and Ethel (Kilgore) Jones. He attended local schools and went on to serve his country during World War II in the U.S. Army.

Upon his return from the service, it was to that beloved family farm in North Waterford that was in existence 42 years before Maine was even a state. A fifth generation Jones working the farm was very near and dear to his heart and he was also extremely proud to have passed along that tradition to now a sixth and seventh generation of Jones’.

A close second to working his ground, was music. He loved to dance with his wife, Frances, and was an avid drum player. He played in numerous orchestras and big bands in years past when you could go out dancing with your family and friends and “still have fun.”

Richard is survived by his wife, Frances (Alexander) of North Waterford, whom he married on, June 15, 1946, in North Waterford; his children, Wallace Jones of North Waterford, Richarda Bisson and her husband, Brian, of Poland, Ohio, Lewis Jones and his wife, Sonia, of Milo, Ruth-Ann Lavoie and her husband, Lenny, of Poland, and Tony Jones and his wife, Manuela, of Germany; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Anita Bradley; siblings, Leslie Jones and Isabelle Rolfe.
