AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Labor will offer a free course on workplace rights next month in Lewiston and Wilton.

Classes are taught by staff of the Wage and Hour Division of the Bureau of Labor Standards. Registration is required because seating is limited. Classes may be added if there is sufficient demand.

The Lewiston class is from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, June 2, at the Lewiston CareerCenter, 5 Mollison Way. Registration is full. If interested, please ask to be added to the waiting list.

The Wilton class is from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 22, at the Wilton CareerCenter, 865 U.S. Route 2East.

This course covers wage and hour laws including minimum wage, overtime, youth employment, severance pay, equal pay, leave requirements (family medical leave, family sick leave and domestic violence) and break requirements. It addresses commonly asked employment-related questions and offers participants an opportunity to ask questions. The course also includes a discussion of employer services offered by the CareerCenters.
