BUCKFIELD — Buckfield High School Class of 2016 valedictorian Brianna Damon and salutatorian Hunter Wiley plan to attend the University of Maine in the fall.

They and about 40 other classmates will graduate on June 11.

Damon wants to major in biochemistry while Wiley plans to focus on business and marketing. Both earned college credits while in high school.

“I want to get far in life and education is important,” Wiley said.

Damon agreed and added that working hard, doing a good job and doing what is asked are important factors in success in high school and college.

In addition to their academic successes, both have participated in extracurricular activities and sports, including soccer and basketball. They also play in the school band and sing in the Glee Club.

Wiley believes students should take the time to appreciate everything, and to make the best of their time while in high school. Damon added that everyone should try their best by focusing on their school years.

“Graduation is bittersweet,” Wiley said. “I’m beyond excited, but I made a point of not rushing through senior year. Looking back, I appreciate everything and all the people.”

Damon also suggested that everyone get involved.

“Enjoy every aspect of it,” she said. “You won’t make it through happily if you’re not involved.”

Both students also credited their teachers for encouraging them.

“Teachers know how far you can go,” Wiley said. “I just did what I was supposed to do. You’re in charge of your future.”

Both also credited the community for the amount of support it gives to students.

“I like the community involvement,” he said, noting that many attend the school’s musicals and plays or travel to sports competitions.

Wiley is the son of Mike and Darcy Wiley. Damon is the daughter of Wendy Damon.
