WILTON — Police said a local man is accused of sexually assaulting a girl under age 14.
Lance Woodbury, 40, of Wilton was arrested Wednesday on a felony charge of gross sexual assault, Police Chief Heidi Wilcox said Thursday.
A conviction on the charge carries a penalty of up to 30 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
The department received a referral from Maine Department of Health and Human Services. Sgt. Chad Abbott launched an investigation. Wilton police interviewed Woodbury on Wednesday at the Farmington Police Department and he was arrested afterward, Wilcox said.
Woodbury is being held without bail at the Franklin County jail in Farmington. He is also being held on a probation hold for an unrelated matter, according to a corrections officer.
A Maine State Police detective assisted Wilton with the investigation, Wilcox said.
