100 years ago, 1916
General Manager Ford of the Cumberland Light & Power Co. and of the L. A. & W. St. Ry. Co., has reached no definite conclusion regarding a new street car terminal In Union Square, Lewiston, which has now come up for consideration. He is considering this question, however, and will meet with a committee from the Lewiston Chamber of Commerce soon to discuss it.

50 years ago, 1966
Nearly 300 Lewiston boys and girls this morning took advantage of the fine fishing weather and competed in the Lewiston Recreation Department’s Second Annual Fishing Derby. Youngsters from all parts of the city began rolling into the Paradise Park area, Webster Street, the scene of the derby, before 8 o’clock when registration for the event began. Many parents were on hand to share in the fun, but were not allowed to take a hand in the fishing. A total of 115 trout were caught in the event while even more hornpout were landed.

25 years ago, 1991
Bates College no longer draws many of its students from Lewiston-Auburn, but it still finds some of its best in its own back yard. Of 402 Bates seniors graduating Monday, only six were local residents. This tiny hometown contingent, however, includes two of the highest-ranking scholars in the class. Karla Kimball Jackson of Lewiston, an English major, graduated magna cum laude with highest honors. Eliot King Smith of Lewiston, a history major, is also magna cum laude with highest honors.
