WILTON — Maine State Police are investigating the shooting death of 24-year-old Michael Reis of New Sharon early Wednesday morning.

The shooting took place at about 1 a.m. outside a mobile home on Weld Road. Reis was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington in a private car, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Reis was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police said they had identified Reis’ shooter but did not release his name. The suspect is cooperating with police, McCausland said.

The mobile home on Weld Road is a rental property owned by Alan McGrath of Wilton.

McCausland said a team of detectives was in Wilton investigating the circumstances and working with the Attorney General’s Office.
