It is that perennial time of year when we enjoy the richness of summer, and yet it heralds the pause in our Sunday worship services until September. We still have June, and summer services carry on at the West Sumner Universalist Church, listed below.
Please join us for Sunday worship services at 9 a.m. All are welcome. Services are provided by The Reverend Fayre Stephenson, guest speakers, and the Worship Service Committee.
June 5, “Julia Ward Howe: Unitarian Social Reformer” led by The Reverend Fayre Stephenson. Today, if people know Julia Ward Howe at all, they know her as the author of The Battle Hymn of the Republic. Julia Ward How had a memorable career beyond that single momentous achievement. Using Elaine Showalter’s The Civil Wars of Julia Ward Howe as our guide, on this Sunday we will trace Julia Ward Howe’s remarkable life as poet, abolitionist, mother, lecturer, and feminist.
June 12, “Teach Your Children Well” led by the The Reverend Kate Braestrup. What we, as religious liberals…do (and ought to?) teach our children! Mission Congregational Church joins us this Sunday, as well as the South Paris and Sumner UU Churches.
June 18, Memorial Service for Eleanor Inman. The service will be held at the First Universalist Church of West Paris at 11 a.m. with a gathering immediately following the service at the West Paris Historical Society.
June 19, Flower Communion led by The Reverend Fayre Stephenson. At this last service of our church year, we’ll tell the story of the origins of the Flower Communion and we will celebrate our own Flower Communion. You are invited to bring flowers from your garden but, more…
don’t worry, if you don’t have a flower garden, there will be plenty of flowers to share.
June 26, Our church members attend the Mission Congregational Church worship service at 9 a.m.
