LEWISTON — Rainbow Federal Credit Union received first place for the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award at the 78th Annual Maine Credit Union League Convention on May 20.

The award recognizes a credit union’s efforts to teach personal finance concepts and skills to members and nonmembers under the age of 18. Rainbow FCU was recognized for its Adopt-a-School Program where they partnered with Longley Elementary School in Lewiston to introduce a youth financial literacy program to second grade students. Through six primary components — introduction to money, in-school math games, field trips to the credit union, field trips to a local grocery store, family math nights and a summer school program — students learned valuable financial skills.
