Mystery Photo for June 12, 2016

There were several dozen correct entries for last week’s mystery photo, including Pam Brown, who knew the loon was in downtown Wilton because she painted it for the bicentennial and Blueberry Festival in 2003. But the winner, Langdon Adams had a story of his own when notified that he had been chosen the winner. His great-great-grandfather, Dennis Adams, was a decorated Civil War hero in the 8th Maine, Company A. He was the leader of the Grand Army of the Republic, a fraternal organization composed of veterans of the Union Army (U.S. Army), Union Navy (U.S. Navy), Marines and the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service (who served in the American Civil War for the Northern/Federal forces). In 1912, he organized and was instrumental in getting the Civil War Soldier monument erected in the town square, shown in the background of last week’s mystery photo. Adams is the winner of a $20 Hannaford Supermarkets gift card.
