1937 – 2016

AUBURN — Rita L. (Guerin) Godbout, 78, of Auburn passed away peacefully at the Hospice House on Monday, June 13, surrounded by her family.

Rita was born June 23, 1937, in Lewiston. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1956 and was looking forward to her 60th class reunion this summer. Rita married the love of her life, Claude Godbout, on May 31, 1958, and was married for 58 years. Rita worked as a bookkeeper, later supporting the family carpeting and upholstery business, but valued her home and family as her greatest career.

She was extremely active with various organizations and charitable events throughout her life, especially with the Auburn schools and St. Louis Church. Rita also loved all crafts, especially knitting, cooking, birds and going to camp. Regardless of having a large family, Rita was always eager to offer help to anyone in need, whether welcoming them to her home or cooking a meal.

She is survived by her husband, Claude; and five children, Ray Godbout with wife, Shelly, Sue Fecteau with husband, Reggie, Roland Godbout with wife, Mindy, Michelle Godbout-Clock with husband, David, and Denise Sensenig with husband, Rene; 12 grandchildren, Matthew, Christine, Jen, Zach, Shae, Travis, Jared, Nicolle, Nathan, Megan, Bailey and Connor; and one great-grandchild, Melia.

Rita is predeceased by her parents, Lucien and Alma Guerin; and all her brothers and sisters.

We were all blessed beyond words to call her wife, mother and memere.
