FARMINGDALE — State police say two 15-year-old boys stole eight cars and caused $50,000 in damage to some of the vehicles and the Litchfield Fairgrounds.

The Kennebec Journal reports that police say the teenagers, of Farmingdale and Whitefield, were arrested Wednesday after they were caught trying to steal a ninth car. They face charges including felony theft.

Police say the cars were stolen over the course of a week. The thefts began June 21. Seven were taken from a Farmingdale used car dealer. One was stolen from a resident at the Foggy Bottom Campground.

Police say one of the cars was later found inside one of the buildings at the Litchfield Fairgrounds. Evidence shows it had been used to ram the gate and damaged some of the fields.
