LEWISTON — Lewiston Middle School student Kerrigan Stevens received the Secretary of State’s Eighth Grade Citizenship Award at the school’s promotion ceremony on June 15.

She was selected for the award by Team Blue Star teachers. In selecting her, they said she demonstrates the qualities of civic awareness, scholastic achievements and community service, and is an overall exceptional young lady.

Over the past two years, Stevens has been an honor roll student. She has a positive attitude and always strives for excellence. She never shies away from a challenge. Activities she’s is involved in at school are yearbook club, honors chorus, band, and student council. She volunteered for the John F. Murphy Homes Dinner, sponsored by the student council. She is also an active participant in basketball and softball. She has earned awards in both sports.

She devotes her time to volunteering for The Dempsey Challenge, the local food pantry, Running of the Bridges 5K, and the Durham Warriors Survival Challenge. She is an active and quiet advocate for her classmates, and her respect and maturity shown toward other students is laudable.

Along with the activities, clubs and community service she’s involved in, Stevens is also immersed in dance.

As a leader by example, she is an active volunteer, continually strives to achieve high standards, maintains honors, assists teachers and classmates as needed, asks highly intelligent and thought-provoking questions, takes on challenges, and is an overall wonderful and positive eighth-grade student at Lewiston Middle School.
