1920 – 2016

FARMINGTON — Maxine Elliott (Cox) Palmer, 95, of Farmington, formerly of Dixfield, died peacefully Thursday, June 30.

She was born Dec. 14, 1920, on Severy Hill in Dixfield, the daughter of Warren A. and Rozena (Averill) Cox. She graduated from Dixfield High School in 1940. She married Damon E. Palmer in 1941.

Maxine was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Dixfield and a 50-year-member of the Extension Homemakers Group. As a devout Christian woman, she also was a member of the West Peru Baptist Church. Known as “Nanny” to her grandchildren, Maxine will be remembered for her molasses cookies, and her knitting and crocheting skills.

She is survived by her children, Mark E. Palmer and his wife, Deb, of Cheyenne, Wyo., Marcia Arsenault and her husband, Len, of Grand Forks, N.D., and Gayle Parker and her husband, Rick, of 29 Palms, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Damon; siblings, Emery, Roderick, Gwen and Claude; a daughter, Sandra Palmer; and a great-grandson, Alex Palmer.
