1944 – 2016
LEWISTON — Richard R. Lavertu, 72, of Lewiston passed away Saturday, July 2, at Central Maine Medical Center following a short illness.
Richard was born in Lewiston on Feb. 28, 1944, to Laurier and Priscilla (Verville) Lavertu.
He attended Lewiston Schools and served his country for two years in the U.S. Army and six years in the Army National Guard.
On June 16, 1972, he married Irene P. Vachon. In 1981, with much happiness, Richard and Irene welcomed their son, Derek Lee Lavertu.
Richard was employed at Scott Paper Co. and retired from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston in 1997 as assistant manager after 25 years with the Lewiston-Auburn office.
He loved playing the slot machines at casinos in Las Vegas and Oxford. He also liked being at the ocean, going to the movies and learning about science, especially cosmology.
He had an incredible sense of humor, which he shared through his last days.
Survivors include his wife, Irene; son, Derek; sister-in-law, Pauline and spouse, Sid Wilder; brother-in-law, Roger Poulin; niece, Terry Roy and her children, Tristan, Sheldon and Stevanie; and many cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; stepfather, Maurice Laliberte; in-laws, Roland and Theresa Vachon; and a sister-in-law, Claire Poulin.
