STRONG —  Porter Lake Association has scheduled three activities this summer on Porter Lake, a 600-acre body of water situated in the towns of New Vineyard and Strong.

Melinda Ann floating classroom will be on the lake Saturday, July 23, with three educational floating trips. As the pontoon classroom cruises, specialists from the Maine Lakes Association will engage the passengers in activities that raise their awareness, appreciation and knowledge of lakes and their ecology.

The cruises are scheduled at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The cost to attend is $5 per person or $15 for a family. To sign up, participants should contact www.porterlakeassociation.com or [email protected]

The annual summer swimming program will run from Monday, July 25, through Friday, Aug. 5, at Beanie’s Beach in Strong. These lessons are free for children living in New Vineyard and Strong or just visiting. A qualified, expert instructor will give the lessons. More information and registration are available by contacting the Strong Town Office. 

The 47th Annual Bean Hole Bean supper will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6. Prices will be $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 5 to 11 for a supper of bean-hole baked beans, hot dogs, rolls, beverages and a variety of salads and desserts. Attendees are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share.
