AUGUSTA — The sixth annual Conference of the Maine Military & Community Network will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at the Augusta Civic Center.

The day will consist of military and veteran educational and networking opportunities.

Keynote speakers will include U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert A. McDonald and Dr. Naomi Michele Simon of Massachusetts General Hospital and the Home Base Program of the Red Sox Foundation.

Between the morning keynotes, there will be the opportunity to attend a panel presentation of veterans who will share their experiences of transitioning to the community. Attendees will also learn about programs for veterans to find jobs, accelerate state licensing opportunities and to start their own business.

There will be a social hour and evening performance from 5 to 8 p.m.

Comedian Michael Garvey will perform at the Klahr Center at the University of Maine at Augusta. Garvey is an Iraq/Afghanistan veteran and Purple Heart recipient. He will bring his service dog, Liberty. The performance is open to the public.

Cost is $40 for the public, $25 for military/veterans. Includes breakfast, lunch and five continuing education credits.
