FARMINGTON — Farmington Downtown Association announced a Children’s Parade will be a new event for this year’s Summer Fest on Saturday, July 23.

The parade will take place at 11 a.m., with the short route going up and down the center of Broadway.

Vendors and display tents will be set up on both sides of Broadway beginning at 7 a.m. and ready to open to the public at 10 a.m.

Sue Jones will organize preliminary contests in Meetinghouse Park for all children with bikes, pets, doll carriages, wagons, costumes, instruments, toys and teddy bears. The contests will be held at at 10:15 a.m. Stickers and medals will be given out to all participants.

Following the contests, all children will meet in the alley by Renys at 10:45 a.m. to form a line for the parade up Broadway. The American Legion Color Guard will lead the parade, and Chris Bracy will be the grand marshal, setting the pace. Children of all ages are welcome to participate — no preregistration is necessary.

Following the parade, there will be a series of races and contests in the park, with vendor booths and game booths running all day. Music Together, an early childhood music and movement program run by Carla Miller, will have activities in the park at 11:30 a.m. and 4:45 p.m.

• 12:30 p.m. at Meetinghouse Park: Baby Crawling Race.

• 12.45 p.m. at Meetinghouse Park: Toddler Run.

• 1:30 p.m. at Magic Carpet Stage: Lori Grassette, also known as “Spoons.”

• 2:30 p.m.: Summer Fest Maypole Dance.

• 3:30 p.m.: Husband-Calling Contest.

• 3:45 p.m.: Bubble-Blowing Contest.

• 4:15 p.m.: Best Beard Contest.

• 4:30 p.m.: Wife-Calling Contest.
