Mt. Vernon Fire Department woke last Sunday to a misty, wet overcast morning. This was the day for their Annual Chicken Bar-B-Q. The firefighters immediately put Plan “B” to work. They took the fire trucks out of the Fire Station and replaced them with tables and chairs. The fire pit for the chicken grates were placed on the other side of the building and a tent was set up to protect the coals from getting wet. All this was done by a great team of people and at a little after 11 a.m. the first of many neighbors and friends of the Fire Dept. started to arrive.
The rain stopped around 11:45 a.m. People kept coming. Young and old alike enjoyed a very tasteful BBQ’d chicken, salad, bun and last but not least a good size brownie…..Chicken Bar B. Q.’s a “Summer Tradition” loved by one and all. If by chance you missed Mt. Vernon’s Chicken B.B.Q you have a second chance to enjoy one in Vienna. The Vienna Fire Department will hold their annual chicken BBQ, Sunday, July 31st.
