1941 – 2016

LEWISTON — Estelle Martel, 74, of Sabattus Street died Saturday, July 2, as a result of an auto accident.

Born in Nantes, P.Q. Quebec, on Aug. 19, 1941, a daughter of the late Josephat and Laura Villeneuve Godbout she was educated in Lac Megantic, P.Q. Estelle was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at Holy Family Church. She graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital CNA Program where she worked for 40 years.

She enjoyed taking many trips with her husband, flea markets and casinos. Estelle was devoted and compassionate towards care of her patients.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Normand Martel of Lewiston; daughter, Diane Hatch and her husband, Dennis, of Litchfield; her grandchildren, Denise and Dennis Hatch Jr., and Michael and Mikayla Van Hamlin; a great-grandson, Trey Hatch; a brother, Claude Godbout of Auburn; sister-in-law, Patricia Lafrance and husband, Roland; brother-in-law, Roger Martel and wife, Connie; and godchild, Nicholas Martel.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Claire Martel; her brothers, Emilien and Leandre Godbout; sister Laurette Leclerc; granddaughter, Deanna Hatch; sister-in-law, Rita Godbout.

The family wishes to thank Lewiston police, fire department, EMT responders and the residents of Pond Road who came to their immediate aid.
