1943 – 2016
FARMINGTON — Sylvia Lee, 73, of Jay, died peacefully on Friday, July 15 with her loving daughters by her side at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
Sylvia was born May 15, 1943, a daughter of Clifton and Christine (Webster) Maxwell. She graduated from Leavitt High School and on July 1, 1961, she married Reginald A. Lee.
Sylvia spent her working years as a fancy stitcher in the local shoe shops, which included Livermore Shoe, Norwalk Shoe and Franklin Shoe. When the shoe shops went out of business, Sylvia pursued college in her mid-50s, graduating with honors from University of Maine at Augusta, with an associate degree in human services. Her most recent job was a position with Walmart, where she worked for ten years.
Some of Sylvia’s favorite pastimes included camping at Happy Horseshoe, playing bingo, working on puzzles, and playing cards with her family. She also enjoyed knitting for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sylvia will be remembered for her generous spirit, independence, and heart of gold.
She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Lee and her companion, Edwin Howes of North Jay, and Christina Lee and her companion, Buzz Spencer, of North Jay; siblings, Jessie Mitchell of Livermore, Stan Maxwell and his wife, Carolyn, of Livermore, Bob Maxwell and his wife, Doreen, of Hartford, and Marilyn Black of Winthrop; seven grandchildren, Reggie, Sheena, Mikayla, Amber, Keana, Lakyn, and Autumn; ten great-grandchildren; and special friends, Trudy Greenleaf and Juanita Black.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Reggie; and a brother, George Maxwell.
