RUMFORD — Thomas Joseph Taylor, 54, of Waldo Street, Rumford, passed away Saturday, July 16, at his sister’s home in Rumford with his loving daughter, Melissa, and his family by his side.

He was born in Rumford on July 24, 1961, the son of Noella Cayer Taylor and the late Leo W. Taylor. He was educated in Rumford, graduating from Rumford High School in 1980. After graduation, he spent six years in the Army National Guard.

Tommy was an experienced meat cutter who was once employed by Naples Packing. He also spent quite a few November days and nights cutting and packaging deer for hunters who were lucky enough to fill their tags. His sense of humor was impeccable, never shying away from the chance to make somebody smile.

Tommy was also an avid sports fan. He loved hockey, from playing for the Rumford Town Team in high school to watching his Boston Bruins. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the New England Patriots. He was also a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Snowshoe Club.

Tommy leaves behind his two children, daughter, Melissa Taylor of Sumner and son, Jason Taylor of Bangor; his mother, Noella Taylor and partner, Emile Barre; sisters, Linda Taylor and husband, Tom Ellingwood, of Rumford, and Diana Ronan and husband, Mike, of Rumford; brothers, Richard Taylor and partner, Elaine Brackett, of Jay, James Taylor of MA, John Taylor and wife, Terry, of Turner, Marc Taylor of Rumford, and Glenn Taylor and wife, Tracy, of Whitefield; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Leo W. Taylor; brother, Robert Taylor; niece, Lauren Taylor; and his grandparents.

The family would like to thank his caregiver of four years, Jenn Gurney, who meant the world to him. She gave him the will to fight.
