1956 – 2016

AUBURN — Byron Ivan “BIJR” Campbell II, passed away at the age of 59 shortly before midnight on Monday, July 18, at Hospice House in Auburn where he had resided for the past 12 days. He had kidney disease and died 9 months after receiving his diagnosis. Byron was very brave to the very end.

He was born in Lewiston on Nov. 26, 1956, the son of the late Byron Ivan Campbell Sr. and Mary Ella Paine Campbell. He attended Litchfield schools and graduated from Monmouth Academy in the Class of 1975. He graduated from Mid-State Business School in 1977 where completed an associate degree in accounting. During his business career, he worked at “Channel 10” as a bookkeeper.

Byron also earned a pilot’s license and was able to enjoy flying over much of Maine. Byron lived in Litchfield his entire life. He was a member of Litchfield Plains Baptist Church and a lively member of the monthly men’s breakfast group there. He also worked hard in the church’s library where he catalogued more than 1,000 books. He lit the candles for Sunday morning services and played piano on occasion. Byron loved and was loved by his wonderful church family for which his family is eternally grateful. He also loved cars, Star Trek, Star Wars and all things relating to studying God’s great universe. Byron loved his family very much.

We will miss him every day with all our hearts.

He is survived by his beloved sister, Deborah M. Campbell, with whom he resided in Litchfield; his beloved brother, Ralph W. Campbell, also of Litchfield with whom he had many adventures; his aunt, Evelyn Wilber of Phillips; and many cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents.

The family wishes to express their deepest heartfelt thanks to the Hospice House staff whose compassionate quality care made a difference in Byron’s last days here on Earth. The family also wishes to express their thanks to his church family whose love, support, cards, calls, visits and gifts of food were of great solace to him and his family.
