‘That Vegan Thing’ at The Ark
LEWISTON — The Ark & Olive Branch Cafe will host WGME anchorman Jeff Peterson at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at 791 Lisbon St.
Peterson will present his testimony about what inspired him to become a vegan. In 2012, in an experience blogged as “That Vegan Thing,” he lost over 50 pounds and his cholesterol dropped dramatically, which he attributes to becoming vegan.

Neighborhood Watch Group meeting
AUBURN — The Auburn Neighborhood Watch Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at the Sixth Street Congregational Church.
The Auburn Police Department will sponsor this event.
Investigative journalism at Cary Library
WAYNE — Cary Memorial Library will host Meet the Muckrakers at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at 17 Old Winthrop Road.
Co-founders of the Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting John Christie and Naomi Schalit will discuss the critical connection between journalism and democracy and provide an inside look into how investigative journalism is done.
The Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting is a nonprofit, nonpartisan investigative journalism organization founded in 2009 to research, write and publish stories about Maine government. Christie and Schalit created it as a response to the threat to democracy posed by diminished local reporting.
The talk will last about 20 to 30 minutes, and there will be a question-and-answer session. Refreshments will be served.

SABATTUS — The Sabattus Recreation Club Running Program will hold its fourth annual Blackjack 5K Run/Walk at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Oak Hill Middle School on Ball Park Road.
Republican Committee to meet
LEWISTON — Lewiston City Republican Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at the Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.
The agenda will include the National Republican Convention; district and senate seats; and finance director and secretary positions.
All Lewiston Republicans are encouraged to attend. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
