MEXICO — Mexico children are keeping busy with the Mexico Public Library this summer.
Area royals ages 5 to 12 attended the first annual Princes and Princesses Picnic on July 9. Princes and Princesses enjoyed royal games and a healthy picnic lunch with a fairy tale menu. They dressed in royal attire and played games, danced and made shields, crowns and a fire-breathing dragon.
Kids got creative during Create!: Sidewalk Art on July 20 in the library’s parking lot beneath sunny skies. All ages took some time to create and share colorful drawings.
Upcoming events include:
Fairy House workshop: 10 a.m. Friday, July 29, at the Calvin Lyons Hall, next door to the library. Children’s author Liza Gardner Walsh will host a Fairy House workshop where children 2 and older can make their own fairy houses together. Constructing fairy houses supports a respectful relationship with nature as well as encouraging children to explore and delight in their natural surroundings. After the workshop, Walsh will sign two of her books, “Where Do Fairies Go When it Snows?” and “Fairy Houses All Year: A Four-Season Handbook.”
Fairy Tale Writing Workshop: Noon Friday, July 29. Children’s author Liza Gardner Walsh will lead children 8 and older through a workshop to help kids discover their own writer’s voice. After the workshop, Walsh will sign books.
Superhero Party: 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6.
Children who are registered with the summer reading program earn chances to win Storyland tickets whenever they participate in a summer program.
