1939 – 2016

AUGUSTA — Robert “Bob” Groves, 77, a resident of Jay, passed away Tuesday, July 26, at Togus Veterans Hospital.

He was born March 26, 1939, in Hartford, Conn., the son of Robert Groves and Rose Bedard. Bob graduated from Livermore Falls High School in 1957. After graduation, Bob proudly served in the U.S. Navy for two tours in Vietnam, retiring as a petty officer first class after 20 years of service. Bob received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maine at Farmington. He worked in security for International Paper at the Androscoggin Mill in Jay for 18 years and retired in 2002.

He married Donna Swift in 1969. Following his career in the U.S. Navy, they made their home in Jay. He enjoyed buying on eBay, spending time with family and friends and especially loved time spent with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Donna Groves; and his daughter, Dr. Rachel Salgado and her husband, Manny; his granddaughters, Emma and Sophia Dalgleish; his sister-in-law, Pat Laverdiere; nephew, James Laverdiere; niece, Dawne Townsend and her husband, David; and great-niece, Kaitlyn Townsend and companion, Kyle Souther.

Bob was predeceased by his daughter, Jennifer; mother, Rose Bedard; mother- and father-in-law, Hank and Corinne Swift; brother-in-law, Bob Laverdiere; and uncle, Alec Bedard.
