LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women has announced its schedule of events for August. 

The center will be closed the first week of August for vacation and will reopen Monday, Aug 8.

Gardening herbs: 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 5, and from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, Aug. 9 to 11. Bates College student intern Ali Rabideau will finish her summer at the center by leading groups in processing the many herbs and calendula from the center’s gardens. Those interested in helping and learning about the herbs can join Rabideau by harvesting and making calendula salve and tea, salted herbs and other items. Tooth fairy teeth cleaning: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 16 and 17. “Tooth fairy” Cindy Leavitt will make her annual visit to the center offering free teeth cleaning and referrals for dental care. Registration is required.

Writing Workshop: 10 a.m. Mondays.

Cooking Club: 10 a.m. Wednesdays.

Bingo: 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20.

Clothing Giveaway: Thursday, Aug. 25.

Art Van: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30.

August birthday celebration: 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31. 

The center gives away 100 hygiene bags free to women each month. There is a constant need for donations of shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, bar soap and feminine hygiene. All items must be new, unopened containers. 

The center is open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday. A full calendar of events and description of support groups are available on the center’s website.

All women are welcome; programs are offered free of charge, and no appointments are needed. Oatmeal breakfasts are available daily, and the center has a shower available for use.
