BRUNSWICK — Maine State Music Theatre will close out its 2016 season with “Mamma Mia!,” the Broadway smash-hit based on songs of pop super group ABBA.

The show will run from Aug. 10 to 27. Three matinees were added on Aug. 13, 20 and 27.

This tale full of sun and fun unfolds on a Greek island paradise when, on the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years before.

The cast includes veterans of the show as well as several fresh faces. Chelsea Williams, originally from Windham, steps into the leading role of Sophie Sheridan. Previously Williams played the role of Sophie on the first national tour of “Mamma Mia!” Lauren Mufson reprises her role as Sophie’s mother Donna Sheridan after performing as Donna both on Broadway and the national tour.

Donna’s best friends and partners-in-crime will be played by Broadway and national tour veteran Jennifer Swiderski (Tanya) and Mylinda Hull (Rosie). Hull last appeared at MSMT in “Chicago” in 2002, and has since starred in several Broadway productions including “The Nance” with Nathan Lane.

Peter Simon Hilton (Harry Bright) last appeared at MSMT in this season’s “Fiddler on the Roof.” He has also performed in national tours of “Oklahoma!,” “Les Miserables” and “Frost/Nixon.” Aaron Galligan-Stierle (Bill Austin) most recently appeared as Motel in MSMT’s “Fiddler on the Roof” and Broadway’s “Phantom of the Opera” and “Ragtime.” The third possible father is played by Ian Knauer (Sam Carmichael), who has performed on Broadway in “Mamma Mia!” as well “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.”

Rounding out the principal cast for the first week of the run, Aug. 10-14, is Cory Jeacoma as Sky, Sophie’s fiancé. Jeacoma most recently appeared in “Footloose” at the Fulton Theatre. Stepping into the role of Sky from August 16-27 is Neil Starkenberg, who performed in “Mamma Mia!” on Broadway and the national tour.

Tickets are available by calling 207-725-8769, at www.msmt.org, or in person at the box office at the Pickard Theater, 1 Bath Road.
