DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society and Alley Cats L/A will be having our annual Giant Yard Sale on Saturday, Aug. 20. We need good stuff to sell. If your readers have items they would like to donate, whether a truck load or a single item, we would love to hear from them. All proceeds go to funding our spay/neuter programs and animals in need.  Donation drop off dates are Aug. 18 and 19 at the shelter, or call Melanie at (207) 784-1553 or GAHS at 783-2311. — No Name, Lewiston.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A while back you had an article about snowshoes in Norway Maine. You mentioned man who collected old snow shoes. Is  it possible to get his information? — HH, Peru.

ANSWER: Paul Cote is the gentleman to whom you refer. According to a Feb. 16, 2016 Sun Journal article by Cassady Applegarth, Cote displays roughly 250 pairs of snowshoes from his collection of about 1,500 pairs on the second floor of Pa’s Antique Attic, located at 1192 Main St. in Oxford. You can contact Cote at (207) 743-1830.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am writing to ask if there is anyone out there who can tell me where I can get a book on the prices for Avon decanters from the late ’60s and ’70s? I had one, but can’t find it. Also, I would like to find a book on prices for country vinyl records.

One last thing, I have an elderly friend who is looking for two large photo frames for her grandparents’ pictures — somewhere in the vicinity of 15-inches by 20-inches or 15-inches by 16-inches.

I read your column every time I get the paper. Love it. Some good advice, recipes, etc. I’ve had good luck in the past when I’ve asked for things. Thanks. — No Name, Jay.

There are multiple books available that offer value pricing guides for collectors. Amazon.com offers several of them, but locally, you might try calling Books A Million (BAM), located at the Auburn Mall. That which they do not have readily available in stock at their location, they are often able to order for you. You can reach them by calling (207) 786-9412.

As far as the picture frames go, D&R Framing, located at 23 Cross St. in Auburn does custom framing. You can call them at (207) 786-4333. Hobby Lobby also has a wide selection of frames in various sizes and does custom frame work as well. You can reach them by calling  (207) 782-6026.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Two mornings in a row, I drove by public works flushing out water hydrants onto the road, with parched lawns right at the spots. Why couldn’t this good water be used to water adjacent lawns, with owners’ consent? I’m really into recycling and hate to see anything wasted. Thank you, Sun Spots, for the wonderful job you do. — Lewiston Resident.
