GRAY — A Lewiston man was killed in a crash Monday morning on the Maine Turnpike near the Gray exit, according to Maine State Police.
Henry P. Roy, 89, died shortly after his arrival at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, according to Stephen McCausland, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman.
Troopers said Roy struck a construction barrel and then paving equipment. The crash occurred just before the northbound Exit 63 ramp, according to the Maine Turnpike Authority’s Facebook page.
Roy was pinned in his 2006 Mercury Marquis until rescue personnel freed him.
The operator of the pavement roller, Blaine Bradeen of Livermore, 49, was taken to the hospital with leg injuries.
In its weekly construction advisory, the MTA noted that it planned northbound and southbound lane closures because of “pavement rehabilitation” from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. all week between miles 54 and 64, Falmouth to Gray.
