PHILLIPS — A local man is accused of having unwanted sexual contact with a woman and attempting to sexually assault her on Aug. 6, according to Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr.

Lt. David St. Laurent received a complaint of sexual assault on Aug. 10, which was alleged to have occurred on Aug. 6 in Phillips.

As a result of St. Laurent’s investigation, Duane Pinkham, 59, of Phillips was arrested Monday at his residence on a felony charge of attempted gross sexual assault and a misdemeanor charge of unlawful sexual contact, Nichols said in a news release.

A conviction on the sexual assault charge is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Chief Deputy Steven Lowell assisted St. Laurent with the investigation.

Pinkham posted $250 cash bail on Monday to be released from the Franklin County jail in Farmington.

He is scheduled to appear at a Farmington court on Sept. 27.
