DIXFIELD — The River Valley Rotary Club donated $100 to four local libraries to promote literacy.

Peggy Malley, librarian at the Ludden Memorial Library in Dixfield, said she was one of four libraries to receive a donation.

“It came as a complete surprise to me,” Malley said. “They came into the library, and I was told that I would be receiving $100 for the library to support literacy.”

Malley said the donation was presented to her by Marge Barker, governor of the Rotary district; Dave Duguay, president of the River Valley Rotary Club; and Joe Sirois, past president of the River Valley Rotary Club.

Dixfield Town Manager Carlo Puiia was also present, Malley said.

The $100 will go into a special account dedicated to donations, she said.

“We use that account for stuff that’s not in the budget,” she said. “We may use it to purchase special books, or we may use it to help fix something if it breaks.”

The Rotary Club also presented $100 checks to the Rumford Public Library, the Mexico Public Library, and the Gardner Roberts Memorial Library in Hanover.
