BETHEL — An Albany Township cyclist was seriously injured Friday in a collision with a van on Route 5, according to Deputy Andy Whitney of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.

Cyclist Jay Herr, 80, had serious injuries and was taken to a hospital by Bethel Rescue and PACE Ambulance, Whitney said. Herr was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The van driver, Anthony Casella, 47, of Turner, was not injured, the deputy said.

There are no charges at this time and the investigation is continuing, Whitney said.

The Bethel Fire Department and Waterford Fire Department assisted with traffic control, and Route 5 was shut down as the Sheriff’s Office reconstructed the scene, Whitney said.
