BETHEL — The Sunday River Brewing Co. — and its 5-pound burgers — will appear Sunday morning on “Fox and Friends” on the Fox News network, according to co-owner Melissa Savage.

Her husband, brewpub owner Rick Savage, is a friend of Tucker Carlson of Fox News, Melissa said, and at a recent wedding they were talking about the brewpub’s “Burger Challenge.”

Restaurant customers who want to take the challenge must try to eat all of a 5-pound burger in half an hour. If they succeed, Melissa said, they get a $100 gift certificate, a T-shirt and their picture on the wall.

If they fail, they must pay the $40 price for the burger.

The challenge has been in place for a month, Melissa said. So far two people have tried and failed.

Carlson, impressed with the idea of the challenge, arranged to get it featured on Fox, she said. Sunday happens to be “National Cheeseburger Day.”

Melissa said details are still being finalized, but the plan is to have several contestants try to down the burgers.

The segment will air sometime between 6 and 10 a.m., the hours the show is broadcast, she said.
