AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library will host historian Erin Bishop, the first speaker of the lecture series, “No Laughing Matter: the Pulitzer Prize and the Art of Editorial Cartooning.”

It will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, in the library’s Community Room.

The former director for education for the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Bishop will provide a history of political cartoons and break down the basic techniques cartoonists use to convey meaning as she guides guests through famous and noteworthy cartoons about key issues in American politics.

The lecture is free and open to the public. The lectures are presented through The Pulitzer Prize Centennial Campfire Initiative series, sponsored by the Maine Humanities Council.
