The Lewiston-Auburn Children’s Foundation recently awarded the YMCA of Central Maine a grant to fund the organization’s Diverse Books Program.

The Children’s Foundation grant supported the purchase of over 30 books featuring characters of diverse races, cultures, sexualities, religions and abilities. The books will be used in a curriculum to teach children about diverse cultures and histories and to develop inclusivity and cultural competency in the classroom.

The books will not only enrich the YMCA children’s library, but will better reflect the diversity of the Lewiston-Auburn community and those served by the organization.
