1949 – 2016

LEWISTON — Charles Lewis “Mitch” Mitchell, 67, of Dixfield, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

He was born in Rumford on Aug. 29, 1949, the son of Lewis E. and Shirley (Moore) Mitchell. He was educated in Rumford schools and graduated with the Class of 1968. He lived in Dixfield for over 30 years.

He served in the U.S. Army as a dental technician based at Fort Devens, Mass. He worked in the tin shop at Bath Iron Works for about five years. When he moved back to the Rumford area, he worked for several construction companies, in local ski shops and as a line cook for a couple of restaurants, and drove the bus for Western Maine Transportation.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for almost 20 years and once held an office there.

He was an avid pool player starting from an early age, enjoyed water and snow skiing, dancing, playing cards, fishing, and especially the company of good friends from many diverse groups.

Although Mitch lived in the mountains of Maine for most of his life, his heart always belonged to the sea — watching the waves roll up on the rocky shore, smelling the salty sea air and, of course, eating lobster.

He leaves behind his life partner of 35 years, Jacqueline Moore and her son, Maurice, of Dixfield; his sister, Sandra O’Brien of Truckee, Calif.; two nieces, Stacey Tedsen and husband, Mark, of Truckee and Christine Wilson and husband, Steven, of Valparaiso, Ind., and their families; a multitude of cousins; and numerous wonderful friends.
