1924 – 2016

SANDWICH, Mass. — Dorothy L. “Dottie” Piper, a longtime resident of Lewiston and Hyannis, Mass., died Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, Mass.

Born in 1924 in Hyannis, Mass., Dorothy served as assistant store manager for Filene’s on Main Street in Hyannis. She continued her retail work when she moved to Lewiston in the 1960s.

Dorothy loved shopping and spending time with her friends and family. Grace and elegance described her well. She had a warm heart and a wonderful smile which could light up a room.

She is survived by her brother, William Amaral; stepdaughter, Judith Dee; and stepsons, Marshall Whitney Piper Jr. and Ronald Piper; as well as a niece and a nephew; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought great joy to her later years.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 50-plus years, Marshall Whitney Piper; her parents, Manuel and Helen Amaral; and her sisters, Elizabeth Amaral and Evelyn Amaral.
