WEST PARIS — The Board of Selectmen will hold two public hearings at its meeting Thursday, Oct. 13, in the Town Office.

Town Manager Wade Rainey said that the public hearings will be held to consider automobile graveyard/junkyard permit applications for Ernest Yap at 36 Maple St., and Frank Perham at 1 Dunham Road.

Yap operates West Paris Metals, and Perham operates Route 219 Garage and Auto Sales.

Yap’s scrap yard was at the center of a dispute in 2013 between Yap and two neighbors of West Paris Metals, who voiced concern about safety threats posed by the yard after a fire tore through Yap’s business in August 2013, destroying 41 junked vehicles.

Repeated inspections by the town’s fire chief and selectmen in 2013 showed that Yap was complying with the town’s safety requirements.
