Williams earned the honor, which was announced Sunday, with a standout performance in the Bobcats’ 29-16 win over Williams College on Saturday.

Williams, of Brookline, Massachusetts, caught nine passes from quarterback Sandy Plashkes for 223 yards and scored three touchdowns (3, 63 and 73 yards) to lead Bates to its fifth victory over the Eph sin the past six years.

Williams flirted with Bates’ single-game receiving yards record of 257 set by Chris Plante in 1991.

Williams is the Bobcats’ most accomplished offensive player, but Saturday’s output was more than he had accumulated in his career coming into the game.

Williams is Bates’ first NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week since slotback Shawn Doherty won the award in Sept. 2013. Bates senior linebacker Mark Upton was last week’s NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week.

The Bobcats (1-2) will host Wesleyan University this Saturday at 1 p.m.

Buckfield 4, Greater Portland Christian Academy 0

SOUTH PORTLAND — Four players scored as the Buckfield Bucks shut out Greater Portland Christian Academy 4-0 in girls’ soccer action Saturday.

Julia Dow and Katy Henderson scored unassisted goals to give Buckfield (8-3) a 2-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, Abby Shields set up Hannah Shields for a goal, and Dow assisted on Kali Litchfield’s goal that capped the scoring.

Goalkeeper Clairette Kirezi made seven saves for Greater Portland Christian, while Kaylee Harvey stopped one for the Bucks.
