OXFORD — The opening of the $15 million Hampton Inn on Route 26 has been delayed twice as work continues on the hotel opposite the Oxford Casino.

Town Manager Derik  Goodine and selectmen met in executive session in late August with GIRI I Oxford LLC President Ashish Sangani, a Massachusetts developer of multiple hotels under the GIRI Hotels name, including the Hampton Inn. They were told at that time the opening would be Oct. 1. That date was then pushed back to Oct. 10, Goodine said.

The opening date has been pushed back several times since the company broke ground for the 92-room, four-story hotel in March 2014. The project’s general contractor, Calamar Construction, has said it’s not unusual to have delays on a large construction project. Calamar did not respond to a request for comment.

Goodine said he has seen workers on site as late as 9 p.m. recently and believes the interior has been completed but that outside work such as landscaping was still unfinished.

The project has been plagued by a number of liens, but a representative of Calamar has said most had been resolved and none delayed the project.

Another lien was filed Oct. 3 against Calamar by Jan Martin Jr. in the Oxford County Registry of Deeds East in Paris. Martin, owner of Coastal Masonry and Contracting Inc. in Freeport, alleges the company is owed $29,186 for labor, materials and services to install masonry at the hotel.
