LEWISTON — The Lewiston Public Library will give an overview of National Novel Writing Month, known as NaNoWriMo, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in the Jeanne Couture Room.

There will be tips on how to draft 50,000 words in 30 days.

This preparatory session will be followed by weekly Write-Ins at the library on the following days:

• 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5;

• 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9;

• 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Nov. 17; and

• 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Write-Ins are where NaNoWriMo participants meet to discuss the craft and challenge each other to writing sprints.

Refreshments and prizes will be provided. All events are free, and registration is not required.

Participants can sign up for NaNoWriMo by visiting nanowrimo.org. By selecting Maine as their home region, they can learn about other local writing events across the state and send messages to local volunteers, known as municipal liaisons.
